Tsing Hua University Improves Performance by 100x in Their Virtualized Academic Information System

April 11, 2019 – London, UK – Facing a storage foundation that could not support the increasing number of campus users to log on to the system simultaneously. National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) deployed an all-flash solution from AccelStor, an innovative all-flash array (AFA) provider for the big data era, reducing the cloning time of VMware virtual machines from hours down to one minute, significantly improving development testing efficiency. In addition to overcoming the bottleneck of the existing storage system, AccelStor’s award-winning FlexiRemap® technology helps to reduce the risk of data loss. The increments in the number of tasks and the number of campus users are causing the existing storage system to overload when there is a burst in the number of concurrent student logins. NTHU, in this case, chose the AccelStor NeoSapphire™ P710 all-flash array solution to resolve the performance bottleneck.

The AccelStor NeoSapphire™ P710 all-flash array comes with the built-in FlexiRemap® flash-oriented software, delivering up to 700,000 IOPS at 4KB random write and integrates VMware vSphere® Storage APIs Array Integration (VAAI) in the block-level storage system, to fully utilize the virtual machine's operational performance. In addition, the P710 supports the VMware vSphere® Web Client Plug-In and allows the Division of Academic Information System to configure the P710 through VMware's operational interface directly.

After the introduction of NeoSapphire™ P710, the cloning speed time of virtual machines instantly increased by 100x, and the time required reduced from 4 hours to 1 minute. It also dramatically improves backup and restoring performance for virtual machines from VMware vSphere Replication by 12x and reduces the mission hours from 4 hours to less than 20 minutes.
